Shaun Browne, Executive Chairman
Shaun Browne has led AME Group for 25 years. He coordinates and drives AME’s group strategy and global business operations. Shaun has pioneered, developed and run large-scale research platforms for the resources and basic industries sectors. He has authored expert and advisory reports across many commodities and advised on numerous transactions.
Yong Cho, Chief Executive Officer
Yong Cho heads AME’s advisory division, which provides commissioned reports and studies related to infrastructure, transactions and financing in the resources industry, as well as strategic and project advice. AME’s detailed engineering knowledge and projects experience also forms a credible base for scoping studies. Prior to joining AME, Yong worked in project finance, specialising in resource projects with Westpac Institutional Bank and Projects+Infrastructure. Yong’s vast experience and knowledge in resources comprises many years in financial advisory, modelling and credit risk management.
Michael Dixon, Director EMEA & Americas

Michael Dixon qualified as a UK Chartered Accountant and has 20+ years of commercial experience. Michael has led and built AME’s business development effort over the last 15 years, during which time he has been heavily involved in writing and assisting to build AME’s commodity research capability. This has also involved being an expert witness in iron ore litigation, financial modelling and corporate advisory work. Previously, Michael had roles with KPMG, Robert Fleming and First Independent Corporate Finance. His experience also includes acting as Head of Business Development to build Bloomberg’s commercial operations in Australasia.
Lloyd Hain, Industry Manager

Lloyd is a mining engineer with over a decade of experience in the coal industry having worked in technical, operational and management roles. He holds statutory qualifications as an open cut manager in several Australian states and has worked for mine owners, mining contractors and consulting firms. He has experience in the planning and operation of all types of coal deposits from simple, single seam to highly complex, faulted, steeply dipping, multi-seam deposits. Lloyd has experience in consulting and advisory work in feasibility, due diligence, technical review, reconciliation, expert witness, optimisation, reserve estimation, marketability, and cost benchmarking for coal, as well as other bulk commodities.
Robert M Ekstein, Senior Consultant
BSc (Geology), GDip Eng Sc (Upstream Petroleum), MAusIMM
Robert M Ekstein is a geologist with business development, marketing and consulting services experience. Before joining AME, Robert had experience as a gas geologist for Arrow Energy where he was involved in well-side geology, sub-surface modelling and applied his skills in stratigraphic correlations to daily operations. Robert was part of a group that spearheaded live well monitoring for deviated development and appraisal wells with the aim of providing live situational analysis. Other functions included petrographic analysis, creation of well proposals, geological predictions, reviewing planning proposals and preparing well completion reports.
Michael Donnelly, Senior Consultant
Michael Donnelly’s experience in mining includes 10 years as an exploration geologist with Rio Tinto, and he has subsequently covered a broad range of mineral commodities, principally copper, gold, uranium and diamonds. AME’s work on the global copper and gold industries combines forecasts for demand, supply and prices with a globally comprehensive industry database of costs and production data, built up from mine by mine analysis. His current focus on copper and gold at AME was preceded by a period as the company’s principal lead and zinc analyst, producing a full range of lead and zinc research.
Hamid Aghighi, Senior Consultant
BSc & MSc in Mining Engineering (Hons), PhD in Petroleum Engineering, UNSW
Hamid Aghighi has over 20 years’ experience in oil, gas and geomechanics. Prior to joining AME, Hamid served as a senior consultant to several oil and gas companies as well as an assistant professor at departments of petroleum engineering both in Australia and overseas. Hamid’s main areas of expertise comprises of reservoir geomechanic modelling, wellbore stability analysis, hydraulic fracturing and petroleum economics. Hamid has published more than 40 technical papers in prestigious journals published by Elsevier, Springer and the Society of Petroleum Engineering, amongst others.
Amin Gholami, Senior Consultant

Amin’s experience in the oil and gas industry, includes working as a project manager for R&D, and as an advisor for full field studies of oil and gas assets. At AME, Amin oversees development and maintenance of techno-economic framework used in cost analysis of upstream oil and gas assets. Prior to joining AME, Amin was a member of the reservoir engineering department at Petropars Ltd. which developed the giant Phase 12 of South Pars field in the Persian Gulf. Amin has been also involved in Master Development Planning and Operational Excellence project of the National Iranian Gas Company.
William Vlahovic, Senior Consultant

William Vlahovic is a senior geoscientist with 35 years’ experience in coal, oil and gas exploration, development, consulting and management. William has worked as a coal geologist, unconventional oil and gas geoscientist and exploration manager for various organisations including: the NSW State Government, junior global oil and gas exploration and production company Molopo Energy and Queensland coal seam gas production company Petrochina International Investment (Australia) where he was involved in the management, assessment, evaluation and divestment of their various coal and petroleum assets in Australia, USA and China.
Linda Taglieri, Industry Director
BSc (Geology, Hons Class 1)
Linda Taglieri runs AME’s coal research team, with a focus on detailed supply-side analysis at the project and operational level. AME’s coal team covers the seaborne trade in met and thermal coal globally, with detailed analysis of historical and forecast mine costs and cost curves, ranging from run-of-mine to FOB and CFR costs at mine, company and country level. Linda’s 20+ years’ experience includes 11 years with RungePincockMinarco as a resources analyst and consultant geologist. This work comprised independent technical reviews and due diligence on coal assets, greenfield exploration project evaluations, mine production forecasts and coal mine cost analyses.
Tony Hespe, Industry Director
BSc (Geology and Geophysics), Master of Business and Technology, MAIG
Anthony Hespe has 40 years of experience in mineral exploration, mine geology, resource definition and project development, which includes the leadership of teams exploring for base metals, gold and bulk commodities in Australia and China. He has extensive experience in identifying and acquiring projects and negotiation and management of joint ventures. Tony was Managing Director of Zenith Minerals, an ASX-listed mining company, identifying an iron ore project and developing it from resource definition through to scoping study.
Nicholas van der Hout

Nicholas van der Hout is a Charted Professional Mining Engineer with over a decade of experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining AME, Nicholas was a consultant conducting project feasibility studies for mines in Asia and a mine manager for a base metals operation in Australia. Nicholas also holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration with a large experience base managing mining operations and technical teams.
Darryl Pilgrim, Industry Director (Aluminium & Alumina)

Darryl Pilgrim brings 25 years’ direct site experience in mining and minerals processing to AME’s international research effort in aluminium, alumina and bauxite. AME covers the entire aluminium supply chain from bauxite through alumina to aluminium smelting in intricate site-by-site detail, which is the foundation of AME’s internationally credible costs analysis and market studies. Darryl’s industry engineering expertise was developed in steelmaking, uranium milling, aluminium smelting and alumina refining in Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, Canada, India and the UK. Most recently, Darryl worked with Rio Tinto on alumina refinery expansion projects in Australia and Vietnam.
Kate McCutcheon, Industry Manager

Kate is the manager of precious metals at AME. She has broad experience in precious, base and industrial metals and has been based in Australia, Laos, Colombia and Chile. She has over 8 years’ onsite operational experience in mine design, optimisation and project evaluation. Prior to AME, Kate worked on feasibility studies with a consultancy in Santiago, spent four years as a senior geotechnical engineer with MMG and over three years with Xstrata Copper as a mining engineer. Kate is a Chartered Professional with the AusIMM and is based in Sydney.
Dean Kennington, Industry Manager
BEng (Process Metallurgy, Hons)
Dean Kennington is a senior process engineer with over 10 years of steelmaking experience. He has worked in operational and technical roles across BOF, EAF, Steel Treatment, Continuous Casting, and Pipe and Tube Mills. He worked for two years at OneSteel’s Sydney Steel Mill as an Operations Engineer and Shift Leader gaining experience in all operations of an EAF Meltshop. Dean spent six years working in Port Kembla at BlueScope Steel’s BOF and Steel Treatment departments. Dean is currently contributing his detailed process knowledge to AME’s global steel model.
Ian Warden, Team Leader

Ian Warden is a geologist with over a decade of experience in the nickel, coal, mineral sands, iron ore and seafloor base metals industries in Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and China. Prior to joining AME, he was the Project Development Manager for Direct Nickel, and President Director of the Indonesian subsidiary PT Direct Nickel. Ian has significant operations experience, particularly with Rio Tinto Australia. AME has covered the nickel industry for more than 40 years, and has built an enviable database for our detailed market, costs and industry analysis of nickel mines, smelters and refineries.
Tom Haanen, Industry Manager
Bsc (Geology), BCom (Economics)
Tom Haanen is an experienced geologist in the commodities sector. He has had numerous roles focused on assessing the geology and economics of both exploration and mining projects in New Zealand & Australia, with a focus on coal and precious metals. Prior to joining AME, he worked as an exploration geologist for FMG in Western Australia whilst completing his CFA Level 1 exam. His previous experience across a range of commodities from both a public and private sector background has helped to increase the knowledge base of the AME team.
